Jason Botka grew up in the Chicagoland area and has been performing and composing music since he was 7 years old, when he first began piano lessons and eventually became a classical pianist competing at Illinois state competitions in high school. He then made the jump from classical to rock when he joined his first of many bands that ended up playing all over the Chicagoland area. His musical talents and experiences lead to an interest in recording and engineering where, after completing recording engineering school in 1992, he interned at nationally known recording studios in Chicago from 1992-1994. Jason then served four years in the United States Air Force in the mid 1990’s, stationed in Little Rock, AK, where he continued performing in bands, writing and recording. All these experiences and his extensive travel has informed his musical perspective and he has become accomplished not only on piano and guitar, but also keyboards, bass, mandolin, and harmonica, as well as singing harmonies and backing tracks. He has collaborated with many artists; performing in bands, writing, arranging, composing, and recording during the past 30 years.
In 2008, Jason opened his own studio: Skye Bleu Studios where he records, produces, composes and masters music of all genres. Jason’s first love was piano composition, but his latest love is creating instrumental music for guitar, bands, and collaborating with lyricists. Jason is a skilled musician with 30 years experience who has a unique voice in musical composition with a wide variety of influences; from Beethoven to the Beatles, Bob Marley to the Beastie Boys, Radiohead to Willie Nelson. Jason has engineered, produced and composed for studio clients in an array of genres: rock, country, Americana, rap, jazz and cover music from The Beatles to Johnny Cash. His motto in the studio is “The song is king - and we all do what ever it takes to serve the song.” Jason’s diverse 35-year career in music, in front of and behind the microphone, gives him an original perspective with a varied collection of musical expertise, a discerning ear, and a keen writing voice, able to compose for any genre needed. He continues with the ongoing goals of making great music through focus and follow-through, staying true to the song, and working until that magic moment manifests: catching lightning in a bottle.
